The origin of Yazidi is debated. The word may come from the Kurdish êzidîtî or êzidî, or the Persian word ایزد ized, izad (angel or supreme being), but some claim it comes from the name of the caliph Abu Khalid Yazid ibn Muawiya or Yazid I.
