portmanteau formed from 'plus' and 'logiciel', proposed by the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF). The plugiciel is a 'plus' because it enhances the capabilities of the main software. In France, the term 'module d'extension' and its elliptical form 'extension' were adopted by the Commission générale de terminologie et de néologie.
