guidé

verb

Syllable Decomposition

gui

from Old French guis in the nominative, guion in the regime, and guion, guions in the plural; derived from Vulgar Latin guido, guidonis from the Frankish witan ('to show the way') from the Indo-European root *weid- ('to know', see video in Latin). Alongside, there was a feminine verbal noun, guida, guia, guide ('the action of guiding') which was preserved until the 17th century; it was wrongly taken for a long time as the feminine of the masculine guide. The old language also used guierre, but it was a verbal noun in the nominative, representing a non-Latin form; guidator.
