contraction (portmanteau) of the words courrier and électronique, allowing the appearance of the suffix -iel, which creates a sound similar to other computer terms (logiciel, ludiciel, plugiciel, etc.). This term was not created by the Office québécois de la langue française but was promoted by it in the 1990s (1997?). It entered the Larousse and defines the anglicism e-mail.
