trop
adverbcommon noun
from Frankish thorp ('village') (cf. dorf in German and dorp in Dutch), by metathesis. Then the word evolved to mean 'the group of villagers' and then 'group', see troupe and troupeau. Currently, a new evolution is observed as trop is used as an adjective in youth language, generally in a positive sense: elle est trop to mean 'she impresses me'.
