routé

verb

Syllable Decomposition

rou

From Vulgar Latin rupta, from Latin rumpere ('to break'): French says 'to walk in someone's footsteps', one also says 'to be well-versed in business' in a sense not much different from 'to have the road, experience'. 'Déroute' comes from the sense of 'route' in Old French: 'defeat', also in the line of the Latin rupture.
