punk

From the English punk, possibly derived from the Latin punctum ("sting"). It had a strongly sexual connotation in this language from the 16th to the 19th centuries. It evolved to mean "worthless", "good-for-nothing", and is reclaimed with irony by punks since they reject "established values". By acrostic, punk also forms the phrase "people under no king", with punks being ideologically close to libertarian, antifascist, and antimonarchist movements.
