widespread in the dialects of western France with the meaning of 'to stir, disturb the water, splash, paddle, trample in muddy terrain', and which would be, according to few, derived from the verb piquer by means of a suffix -ouiller and by contagion of verbs with similar meanings such as brouiller, fouiller, souiller, etc., and from the noun gouille, 'pond, water hole'.
