a priori pélot is a word from the Norman patois that designates a plot in French. in the same patois, the plot designates the post that was formerly driven into the ground to keep cattle in the pasture without fencing. this post (or pélot in the patois of the Manche) was about 35 centimeters long and 3 to 5 centimeters in diameter, and had a larger head to both hold a chain link and strike it with a wooden mallet to drive it into the ground.
