moudre

verb

Syllable Decomposition

moudre

from Latin molere (with the same meaning). This verb has fallen out of general use and is now only really used in the first three persons of the present indicative, the infinitive, the first person of the imperative, the future, and the past participle. Its first conjugation synonyms have supplanted it in all other persons, a tendency reinforced by a tricky conjugation: je, tu mouds, il moud, but nous moulons, vous moulez, ils moulent in the present indicative, and we find this l again in the simple past (je moulus) and the imperfect (je moulais) of the indicative as well as in the subjunctive (que je moule).
