flirt

common noun

A word borrowed from English and which would have its origin in the old and middle French fleureter, or else a word whose phonetics are supposed to express the meaning, probably composed from flit ("to flutter") or flick ("to press") and spurt ("to eject something violently") both for the meaning and for this idea of sudden movement. The original English verb (appeared in the 17th century) meant "to give a strong blow" or "to mock with contempt", the original name "joke, prank" and later designated a frivolous girl with a superficial amorous behavior, from which the word would have taken on its romantic connotation.
