word constructed from the prefix eu- borrowed from Ancient Greek ευ-, eu-, as well as κάρυον, karyon, ("nucleus"), thus literally meaning "true nucleus". These organisms were indeed distinguished from "non-nucleated" organisms, the prokaryotes, to divide the living world into two major groups (although prokaryotes are now separated (into archaea and eubacteria).
