duvet
common noun
Syllable Decomposition
duvetUnexplained alteration, at present, of the Old French dumet (down), diminutive of dum or dun. The latter also gives the Medieval Latin duma (1250). The forms in m are probably an alteration of dun with feather. Dun is a borrowing from Old Norse dunn (down). The latter will also give Norwegian dun, Swedish dun, Danish dun, English down and German Daune.
