coquelet

common noun

Syllable Decomposition

coquelet

from 'rooster' with two diminutive suffixes -el and -et, 'coquette' which had the meaning of 'small rooster' having taken the meaning we know (as an adjective since the 15th century, as a noun in the 17th century), and 'cochet' being too similar to 'cocher' (a word then very much in use), a replacement was needed and this diminutive appeared in the 18th century.
