from Occitan cauma dif=cauma, calma (dif=cauma, calma) borrowed from ancient Greek, related to calma in Spanish, calma in Catalan, calma in Italian, calma in Portuguese. It is noted that calma ('absence of wind') is as old in the Iberian languages as in Italian and that these languages attest to the etymological sense of 'strong heat' which is not the case in Italian.
