caboche

common noun

Syllable Decomposition

caboche

According to one hypothesis, this word would come from the Old French boce or bosse, "bump" see cabosser. But it is more likely that it derives from the Latin caput, probably via an Italian dialect (caboccia, or capoccia means "head" in contemporary Italian slang). We find caboce in the sense of "head" as early as the 12th century. This is probably the word that gave cabbage in English. To be related to the Occitan cabòça or the Spanish cabeza.
