Peintre
common nounproper noun
constellation created by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille in 1752 to fill the last unnamed areas of the southern sky. Originally named the Painter's Easel, Lacaille Latinized this name to Equuleus Pictoris (same meaning) in 1763. Astronomers later shortened the name to Pictor ('the Painter')... even though the asterism actually represents an easel.
