Auge

common nounproper nounverb

algia; (11th century) alge possibly derived from a hypothetical root alg-, possibly related to the notion of humidity, see algor and alga in Latin. This root also seems to be present in the name of the ancient territory of Augerons in the Eure (algerum 1050), divided around the 12th century into two parishes: Saint-Aquilin-d'Augerons and Saint-Denis-d'Augerons. The root alg- might also be found in the name of Lalgot (alegot 1108), a right-bank tributary of the Vie in Saint-Loup-de-Fribois, see Augers-en-Brie and Augerolles.
