Syllable Decomposition

Apocalypse

borrowed from Latin apocalypsis (revelation), itself borrowed from Ancient Greek. Noun derived from the Greek verb, preceded by the privative prefix ἀπό ápó. Literally '[thing] "un-covered"', and by extension, '[thing] unveiled to men', 'removal of the veil', 'the veil is lifted'. It was only much later [when?] that religious scriptures [title/titles?] assimilated the word apocalypse to associate it with the Last Judgment and thus with the discovery of God's truth.
